The Blue Valley School District is dedicated to providing all students with an Education Beyond Expectations and one that allows students to succeed in school and in life. To ensure the success of district students, the district has set high standards that are reflected in what is taught in the classrooms. While holding high expectations for district students is not new, the way school and student achievement is measured and reported changed in 2002 after the federal law known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB) was enacted. As a result of NCLB, Kansas has devised a series of indicators, or benchmarks, that show if schools are making the required Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

According to research conducted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Blue Valley is the only district in the nation with more than 20,000 students to have achieved AYP as a district and each school for all nine years AYP has been in existence. Of 234 possible opportunities for achieving the Standard of Excellence on the 2011 Kansas State Assessments, Blue Valley schools earned 233, and every Blue Valley school received the Building Standard of Excellence in reading and math.
